Those are veal crates.

In case anyone is confued: cows must bear calves in order to produce milk. The calves are then taken from the mother and not allowed to nurse (which is VERY stressful for the cows since they’re heavily social creatures) and they’re put in a veal crate for the rest of their (very short) lives. The calves are tied to these small crates unable to turn around or lie down, since the tenderness of veal comes from the fact that these animals are killed so early and essentially don’t move their entire life. They’re slaughtered weeks later.

So many babies :(

Yes, and the females born of this industry are the next generation of dairy cows.
